Mark Macrossan was born and raised in Brisbane, studied Arts/Law at Queensland University, lived in London in the mid-1980s, and travelled extensively. Previous occupations include barrister (Sydney 1991-2007), film extra (London 2007-8) and theatre-producer (Sydney 2010).  He began writing full-time in 2008 and received a master’s degree in creative writing at Sydney University (2015).

Early writing projects were mainly for the stage, with plays produced at the QTC in Brisbane, La Mama in Melbourne, the Darlinghurst Theatre in Sydney, and the Toowoomba Repertory Theatre where his play, A Million Civilians, won that theatre’s 2017 Playwriting prize.  His short stories and poetry have appeared in various publications including Southerly, Meanjin, Cordite and Poetry Salzburg Review.     

He has published two novels, Dark Oceans (2018) and The Volcanologist (2021), and one poetry collection, Antimeridians (2023).

He currently lives and writes in Edgecliff, Sydney.
